Calgarians out for a brisk jog or out walking their dogs may run into Canadian soldiers at Nose Hill Park in the city’s northwest Saturday.
But it’s nothing to worry about, as the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) announced the Calgary Highlanders are going to be training in the park during the day.
Around 20 soldiers will undertake the training, and the armed services say troops will be without “weapons or munitions.”
In addition, soldiers will be practicing leadership skills and navigation capacity skills.
“Training that occurs outside the military facilities allow Canadian Armed Forces members to practice scenarios in a realistic environment, as well as build ties with the civilian
population,” a statement from CAF reads.
The Calgary Highlanders is primarily a reserve infantry unit with CAF and are part of the 41 Canadian Brigade Group in Alberta, which is part of the 3rd Canadian Division.
It is located at Mewata Armoury in Calgary.
