Royal Oak fire sends two to hospital: Calgary Fire

The Calgary Fire Department say a home was caught in a blaze in the northwest Royal Oak area early Friday morning.

The response was around 12:30 a.m. for a family residence on Royal Abbey Rise, with fire crews reporting “flames and smoke” popping up through the roof.

All the residents evacuated beforehand, according to fire crews.

Firefighters struck a second alarm to ensure enough resources were on the scene.

Two of the residents in the home have been displaced. In the meantime, they have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ATCO and Enmax were on the scene to ensure no further hazards arose.

Investigators say the cause is unknown, but at the same time, they want to remind people of improper disposal of smoking materials, which can lead to an accidental cause of outdoor fires.
