Crews have recovered the remains of a man who was trapped when a trench he was doing sewer repairs in collapsed Thursday.
The collapse happened in the northwest community of Charleswood just before 11 a.m. on June 8, 2023.
The Calgary Fire Department told CityNews that around 9:40 p.m., the department and the city’s water services and mobility teams recovered the worker who was buried by the collapse.

Fire crews say the man in his late 20s was conducting sewer repairs on 34 Avenue about 20 feet down when a large bout of dirt fell on him.
“There was quite a bit of earth that went down into the hole and we don’t quite know where he is. He was on a ladder. So our fire crews are trying to get him out. They’ve cleared the area, there’s a retaining wall that they had to take apart,” Carol Henke with the fire department told CityNews immediately following the incident.
City officials say the incident is now being investigated by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety as well as the Calgary Police Service.
