Lambert was Huska’s assistant with the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets for three seasons. He was an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators for the past four years.
“We feel those past relationships will allow us to get up to speed quicker and hit the ground running,” said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy in a statement.
“While Dan will be running our defence, he also provides well-balanced experience, having run the power play in Nashville the past four years. The focus is keeping the puck out of the net, but Dan’s approach generates an offensive flair from the back-end.”
While speaking on Flames TV, Lambert says he is “really excited to spend some time with Ryan and get to coach with him again.”
“To join the Calgary Flames, I’m really excited about the opportunity,” Lambert said.
“And to work in a Canadian Market is something I haven’t done in a long time. So, I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m excited for the challenges ahead.”

Lambert became head coach of the Rockets in 2015 when the club won a WHL title.
Meanwhile, Savard played 221 of his 800 career NHL games with the Flames from 1999 to 2003.
Savard scored 207 goals and had 499 assists for 706 points with the Flames, New York Rangers, and Boston Bruins. He won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011.
He started his coaching career with the St Louis Blues as an assistant coach in 2019-20.
He coached the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires in the last two seasons, accumulating 88 wins and making the OHL finals in 2022.
“I know how competitive Marc is from when we played together over three seasons here in Calgary,” Conroy’s statement reads.
“Savy has a great offensive mind which will help boost our power play and help drive our offensive game.”
