Calgary police investigate Marlborough sledding incident

Calgary police are investigating a collision between a vehicle and a child on a sled Tuesday.

Investigators say around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to Marlyn Way and Marlyn Place NE in Marlborough for reports of an incident where a kid collided with a vehicle.

Police believe an SUV driven by a 25-year-old man, was travelling west on Marlyn Way NE, and as he approached the intersection, a six-year-old boy, who was sledding, came down a hill and onto Marlyn Way NE.

The child slid into the passenger side of the vehicle as it was driving, knocking him off the sled and into the road, according to investigators.

Police say the driver stopped the vehicle and stayed at the scene.

The six-year-old suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Alcohol and drugs are not thought to be factors in the incident.
