Northeast Calgary road closed due to fatal accident: police

One person is dead after a collision in Calgary’s northeast Wednesday morning.

Calgary police posted to social media just before noon, asking the public to avoid the area of 39 Avenue and 19 Street NE.

A police spokesperson tells CityNews officers were called to the intersection of of 39 Avenue NE and 19 NE around 10:45 a.m. for reports of a collision involving two SUVs.

It’s believed a Chevrolet Blazer was driving west on 39 Avenue NE and didn’t stop at a stop sign at 19 Street NE.

At the same time, a Suzuki Grand Vitara was driving south on 19 Street and hit the Blazer as it entered the intersection

Police say the driver of the Blazer was declared dead on scene and the passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Suzuki wasn’t hurt.

Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drug impairment are factors in the incident.
