Calgary police uncover fraud ring, recover $100,000 in stolen property

Calgary police have charged two people for their involvement in a complex fraud ring to buy and sell snowmobiles across multiple provinces.
Investigators say on Wednesday, Jan, 10, 2024, a snowmobile dealership contacted police regarding a suspicious transaction.
Police say the stolen property team along with district investigators worked to figure out the rightful owners of the stolen property.
Instead, they uncovered a “complex” ring of fraudulent identification being used by different people across Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and B.C.
Calgary police say the suspects used the fraudulent identification to buy, deliver, and sell snowmobile and snowmobile trailers.
Investigators believe the suspects stole multiple victims’ identification information, created fake IDs from that stolen information, and went on to obtain credit cards in the victims’ names in order to buy the snowmobiles to resell online to suspecting buyers.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, police executed a search warrant at a rural property on 84 Street SE, where investigators found more stolen vehicles including a Mercedes Benz Sports Coup, a Honda Odyssey minivan, and a brand-new utility trailer.
The items recovered by police totalled more than $100,000 in stolen property.
Devin Douglas Bruce has been charged with two counts of possession of forged documents, two counts of possession of stolen crediut cards, one count of possession of stolen identifiction, and one count of possession of identity information.
The 35-year-old from Calgary is set to appear in court on Friday, March 15.
Isabella Morgan Schenck has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one count of possession of stolen identification.
The 27-year-old from Calgary is also scheduled to appear in court on March 15.
