Calgary man charged in alleged indecent exposure at SW rec centre

A Calgary man is facing charges after allegedly exposing himself to boys in the locker room of a southwest recreation centre on two occasions.

Police say around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, a man exposed himself and made comments of a sexual nature to a 13-year-old boy in the men’s change room at the Southland Leisure Centre at 2000 Southland Drive SW.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, just after 2 p.m., investigators believe the same man exposed himself to an 11-year-old boy in both the shower and locker areas of the men’s change room, also at the Southland Leisure Centre.

Joshua Ronald Beckie has been charged with two counts of indecent exposure to a person under the age of 16, Calgary police say.

“I commend the victims in these cases for coming forward to report to police what happened to them as indecent exposure incidents often go unreported,” Insp. Leah Barber of the Calgary Police Service said in a statement. “A child should never have to endure the impact of experiencing such an appalling act. All reports of indecent exposure are thoroughly investigated, and we lay charges whenever possible to reinforce that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

The 33-year-old is set to appear in court on Thursday, March 14.

Anyone with information about these incidents, or who is looking to report a non-emergency crime, can contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
