Despite falling just short of making the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs, there’s some good news for the Calgary Hitmen.
Blueliner Reese Hamilton put up nine points in three games en route to Rookie of the Week.
The 16-year-old, who was selected by the Hitmen in the first round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, finished his first season with 31 points in 42 games, good for third in points among rookie defenders.
Hamilton is the second member of the Hitmen to earn 2023-24 Rookie of the Week honours, joining Ben Kindel.
Other weekly honours this year saw Ethan Buenaventura grab Goaltender of the Week in early March, while Carter Yakemchuk was Player of the Week in January.
The Hitmen were in the thick of the playoff race until the second last game of the season when they were mathematically eliminated. They finished the 23-24 campaign with a 28-31-8-1 record, ninth in the Eastern Conference.
