Two charged in drug, gun seizure at SE Calgary home

Calgary police have laid several charges against two people after weapons and drugs were seized at southeast home earlier this month.
Investigators say in April, a woman was arrested for possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking twice, just a few days apart.
Police began to investigate where the drug supply was coming and as a result, executed a search warrant at a house on the 7200 block of 22 Street SE on Tuesday, July 9.
Two people in the home at the time were arrested, and ‘street-level distribution amounts’ of drugs were found, including MDMA, powder and liquid methamphetamine, and fentanyl.
Officers also found a white, semi-automatic .22 rifle, a sawed-off shotgun with a defaced serial number, .22 and shotgun ammunition, and a prohibited rifle magazine.
“We know drug trafficking and weapons go hand-in-hand, as does the danger both present to our community. We remain committed to ensuring this activity does not go unchecked,” District 1 General Investigations Unit Staff Sgt. Brad Moore said in a statement.
Twenty-five-year-old Kacie Rae Affleck is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of hazardous storage of a firearm, one count of firearm knowledge of unauthorized possession, one count of possess a loaded or unloaded prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, one count of possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been defaced, and one count of unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon.
She is set to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 9.
Fred Maxwell West, 61, is charged with hazardous storage of a firearm, firearm knowledge of unauthorized possession, possess a loaded or unloaded prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been defaced or altered, and unauthorized possession restricted/prohibited weapon.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 2.
