City, federal funding to fix up more than 1,000 Calgary homes

More than 1,000 homes in Calgary will get much needed repairs thanks to funding from the city and the federal government.

Over $33 million in funding was announced Wednesday, which will fix building envelopes, replace roofs, windows, and doors, and increase accessible and energy efficiency in 1,052 homes.

The federal government’s Affordable Housing Fund contributed just over $10 million to the initiative, while the City of Calgary contributed $11.7 million, and Calgary Housing pitched in $11.8 million.

“One of the most effective ways to meet our affordable housing needs is to invest in the homes we already have,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

“By prioritizing repairs and improvements, we can ensure that residents remain in their beloved communities. We must continue investing in the homes that have kept our neighbours safe and warm for decades.”

The money will help complete projects in Erin Woods, Falcon Ridge, Huntington, McKenzie Towne, Millrise, North Haven, Queensland, and Vista Heights.
