A new tech centre has opened in Calgary for city teams to experiment and prototype solutions to improve service delivery for citizens.

Wave Tech Centre is on the main floor of the Andrew Davison Building at 133 6 Avenue SE, close to the Municipal Building and collaborators like Platform Calgary and post-secondary institutions.

The centre gives access to emerging technologies for experimentation, including digital fabrication, augmented and virtual reality equipment, artificial intelligence, quantum infrastructure, internet of things, cloud computing and software.

The city says it will also accelerate the digital transformation of city services to offer modernized services and inform city investment decisions to maximize return on investment.

“At Wave Tech Centre, City teams will be able to test new ways to use emerging technologies so we can invest in solutions that are the best fit for our city and bring it to where it is needed most, quickly and reliably. The Centre will allow the City to make informed data-driven decisions, ultimately leading to enhanced services for all Calgarians,” Mayor Jyoti Gondek said.

Features of the centre include a virtual reality (VR) room, advanced high compute infrastructure, and robofabrication.

The project was funded in part, by Prairie Economic Development Canada (Prairies Can) through its Regional Innovation Ecosystems program.
