Snow piles blocking CTrain parking spaces frustrates Calgary commuters

Snowfall in Calgary brings its own set of challenges and many Calgary commuters are feeling the impact at CTrain station parking lots.

Head to a transit parking lot this week and you’ll likely come across piles of snow blocking many free parking spaces.

CityNews spoke to several commuters at Crowfoot station in northwest Calgary on Monday who expressed frustration for being forced to pay for parking, or park further away.

For some, the lack of available free parking means long walks to the station, risking slips and falls in winter weather.

Others experessed some dismay that the city cannot find anywhere else to put the snow.

The City of Calgary maintains they are doing their best to address the issue, adding that hauling snow outside the parking lots is a very costly procedure.

“When we do have a big dump like we did, we have to do our best to try to minimize the impact,” says Stephen Tauro, Stephen Tauro, communications and information lead with Calgary Transit.

“But obviously we can only do so much, right? And sometimes some stalls are impacted.”

Tauro says the city makes it a priority to not blocked reserved spots or any accessible, short-term parking.

Despite this. CityNews discovered multiple reserved parking spots buried under piles of snow on Monday.

Tauro claims the city has not received complaints about the issue and urges Calgarians to report their concerns.
