Calgary Wildlife releases bald eagle that was found hurt near Glenmore Reservoir

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation society wrapped up 2024 with a successful final release a bald eagle. On December 28, 2024, after a week of care, the eagle was returned to the wild at the Glenmore Reservoir.

A bald eagle that was found hurt in Calgary before Christmas was released back into the wild after a week of care.

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society says the bird was found lying on its side at the Glenmore Reservoir and was “exhibiting concerning symptoms.”

Officials say the eagle was thin, dehydrated, and they found blood pooled under its beak. Calgary Wildlife suspected after testing that the bird was injured during an aerial fight.

Calgary Wildlife provided the eagle with care for one week, including warmth, hydration, and a steady diet. The bird was released back into the wild on Dec. 28.

“Releasing this beautiful bald eagle as our final patient of 2024 is a poignant reminder of why we do what we do,” said Calgary Wildlife Executive Director Beki Hunt in a statement.

“All wildlife, large and small, will continue to require our help and commitment to rehabilitation and returning them to their natural habitats.”

The organization says they admitted just under 2,300 patients in 2024 and logged more than 7,500 wildlife calls with the help of more than 30,000 staff and volunteers.
