Calgary police have charged a man for exposing himself to two young girls at a school in the southwest earlier this week.

Police say in a media release the girls, who attend Nellie McClung School, said they saw a man acting suspiciously just after noon on Wednesday. The man entered a treed area and allegedly exposed himself while looking towards them.

The students immediately reported it to school staff, who then called police.

Officers say they got a detailed description of the man after speaking with students and staff, and used CCTV footage from a nearby home to identify him.

He was found and arrested on Thursday near the school.

Alejandro Jose Cervera-Marin, 26, has been charged with two counts of indecent exposure to persons under the age of 16, two counts of criminal harassment and one count of intimidation.

He is also charged under the Education Act with one count each of loitering or trespassing on school property and conduct detrimental to safe operation of a school.

Cervera-Marin is expected to appear in court on May 20.

“Indecent acts are traumatizing to anyone, especially young children,” Sgt. Trent Barker-Petersen of the Calgary Police Service said. “We recognize that it can be difficult to report such acts, and we are thankful that the students came forward. This is a criminal offence and there is zero tolerance for such highly inappropriate behaviour in our community.”
