A snowfall warning has been issued for areas west of Calgary with snowy conditions expected through the weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says heavy snowfall is expected in parts of the Rockies and Foothills on Saturday, covering areas including Banff and Kananaskis.
The weather agency says up to 20 centimetres could accumulate.
“Snowfall will begin as flurries early Saturday morning, and become more steady by noon,” reads the warning. “Snowfall could accumulate rapidly, especially at areas of higher elevation, on Saturday afternoon and evening.”
ECCC warns the snow could make for tricky driving in some spots and visibility could also be a problem.
The snow is expected to taper off early Sunday.
Anyone heading out to the mountains should check avalanche.ca for the latest snowpack conditions.
Calgary is looking at rain showers starting Saturday afternoon, turning to a few flurries late. The daytime highs this weekend are expected to be in the low single digits, but spring-like weather should be back early next week.
