Calgarians to remember Vancouver ramming attack victims at City Hall vigil

By CityNews Staff

Calgarians are expected to gather outside City Hall Wednesday to honour the victims of last weekend’s Vancouver vehicle ramming.

Eleven people were killed and multiple others were injured after a man drove a car into the crowd at the Filipino Lapu Lapu Day street festival in Vancouver on the evening of April 26.

The victims range in age from five to 65-years-old.

The suspect, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, now faces eight charges of second-degree murder.

Vancouver’s health authority confirmed Tuesday the driver was under the care of one of its mental health teams when the incident happened.

City police also say that Lo had “contact” with officers in the Lower Mainland the day before the tragedy.

B.C. Premier David Eby has also said a public inquiry into the tragedy will be launched by the government if the criminal investigation doesn’t surface answers.

Wednesday’s event, organized by Alberta’s largest Filipino cultural festival, Fiesta Filipino, is set to start at 5 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring a candle, a prayer, and your heart.

Events are also scheduled in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and Toronto.
