A man from B.C. is facing sexual assault charges that date back more than a decade following an alleged inappropriate relationship with a teen girl.
Calgary police say the man met a then 13-year-old girl online in 2013 and started talking on social media.
The two were introduced through a mutual friend involved in the cosplay scene. Eventually the pair started meeting in person and started a relationship that turned sexual, according to police.
Police say one of the girl’s family members reported the relationship to police later that year. Both the suspect and the victim denied anything sexual had happened and no charges were laid.
In December of 2024, the now adult victim reported the alleged sexual nature of the relationship to police.
Investigators have since charged 34-year-old Burnaby, B.C. resident Isaac Ho with three charges including sexual assault of a minor, sexual interference of a minor, and invitation to sexual touching of a minor.
The accused will appear in court in April.
“In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault,” reads a release from Calgary police. “Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.”
