Despite what feels like persistent rain falling in Calgary this summer, July 2025 is far down the list when it comes to records.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says this month will sit somewhere around fourth or fifth place when it comes to precipitation records.
“The pattern in our upper levels has been pushing moisture off of the Pacific for better part of a month and dropping it right on our doorstep,” says 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield. “Over the last 30 days, Calgary has seen rainfall totals in the 90th percentile over through the month of July.”
The city has seen 150-175 millimeters total across the city.
A typical amount for this time of year is around 66 millimeters.
It’s also been a bit cooler than usual. Stanfield says the average temperature this July was 21.2 C, lower than the 23 C that is typical.
“Our average low is usually around 9.8,” he explains. “This year’s average is a little higher at 10.6 C, that’s thanks to an abundance of overnight cloud cover.”
July is set to come to an end with sun, according to ECCC.
Tuesday will see a high of 24 C that will feel more like 27 C.
Wednesday’s will be even hotter with a high of 27 C, but the humidex will make it feel more like 30 C, according to ECCC.
The forecasted high for Thursday is 27 C and Friday, Aug. 1 will be 28 C
The long weekend will be cooler and rainy with a high of 21 C and 60 per cent chance of showers on Saturday, 20 C and a 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, and 19 C with a 60 per cent chance of showers on Monday.
