Police continue to track a suspect north of Calgary after earlier asking residents in the area to secure their homes.
Olds RCMP say they are looking for a suspect northwest of the town of Bowden, between Highway 587 and Township Road 350 and from Range Road 12 to Range Road 14, after getting reports of a man trying to light a fire on a rural road.
Mounties put out a release around 11:30 a.m. asking residents in the area to secure their homes and to avoid picking up any pedestrians.
In an update several hours later, police say they have been unable to find the person they are looking for after an extensive search using dogs, a helicopter, and drones.
Officers did find an abandoned stolen vehicle in the area, according to RCMP.
The investigation is ongoing and RCMP say they don’t believe the suspect poses “an immediate risk to the public.”
People are urged to call 911 if they notice anything suspicious. A heavy police presence is expected in the area until the person is found.
