Shelter in place ends in Sundre, police arrest suspect

A lockdown for a community in central Alberta has ended Friday morning following reports of a man wandering around town with a gun.

RCMP in Sundre, about 100 kilometres northwest of Calgary, issued a shelter in place just after 8:30 a.m.

In a 9:30 a.m. update, police lifted the order and said the suspect had been arrested.

Residents were asked to stay in their homes and not open the door for anyone.

Schools were also on lockdown and buses weren’t operating.

Police say buses that were already on route to school had stopped in a safe place and didn’t pick up anyone else during that time.

Students and parents were also advised not to go to the school.

An update will be issued when more information becomes available.
