Calgary mayoral race recount to go Monday

By CityNews Staff

Votes cast for mayor in Calgary’s municipal election last week will be recounted today.

The process was triggered by a request from runner up Sonya Sharp.

She lost the race to Jeromy Farkas by 581 votes.

Election Calgary’s returning officer approved the recount after it was confirmed the margin of victory was within the 0.5 per cent threshold.

Farkas’ team has said he’s already begun onboarding at City Hall, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

Sharp says her asking for a recount is about ensuring transparency and confidence in the democratic process, and could uncover spots that could be improved.
