Roads reopen after building fire on Calgary 17 Avenue SW: police

A portion of 17 Avenue in southwest Calgary has reopened after police closed it due to a building fire on Sunday.

The city issued the notice at around 10:30 a.m., saying the closure at 17 Avenue and 4 Street is blocking the avenue on both sides between 4 and 5 streets.

Calgary police told 660 NewsRadio the closure is due to a fire inside an abandoned building. No injuries have been reported at this time.

It’s not clear what the cause is. A photo of the incident shows several fire trucks on the scene.

At around noon, the city released another update, saying only the westbound lane is blocked between 4 and 5 streets.

The city’s traffic cameras indicate the roads have reopened.

CityNews has contacted the city fire department for more information.
