Two men are facing drug trafficking and export charges after security officers at Calgary International Airport intercepted 60 kilograms of cannabis resin last week.
The seizure occurred on Nov. 14, around 8 a.m., when Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) staff flagged four checked bags during routine x-ray screening.
Inside the luggage, officers discovered vacuum-sealed packages wrapped in blankets. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be hashish, with an estimated street value of $1.2 million.
Police say the suspects were identified through surveillance footage and arrested without incident as they boarded a Vancouver-bound flight. Investigators believe the men intended to continue to Sri Lanka via connecting flights.
Kody Carl Klimove, 27, and Corey Daniel Airhart, 34, have each been charged with possession for distribution and possession with intent to export. Both are scheduled to appear in court in January.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
