Pedestrian hurt in hit-and-run crash along Centre Street

Officers are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one woman injured in north Calgary on Tuesday evening.

Calgary police say the collision happened around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Centre Street and 8 Avenue.

A vehicle struck a female pedestrian as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk, according to police. The driver failed to remain at the scene.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. Her condition is described as non-life-threatening.

Centre Street has been closed in both directions as part of the investigation. Southbound traffic is blocked at 9 Avenue NW, while northbound traffic is closed at 7 Avenue NW.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
