Calgary police say an impaired driver has been arrested after they drove straight into a Circle K in southwest Calgary Saturday.
It happened at around 8:30 p.m. at the convenience store on 2905 14 Street when a 41-year-old woman drove her white Jeep Patriot into the store.
Police say she was impaired and subsequently arrested. Charges were laid on Sunday.
No injuries have been reported.
Staff Sgt. John Guigon says incidents like this are more common than you think, and is why checkstops are conducted at various intervals, including this holiday season.
“The reason we have as many checkstops as we do during this season is because of the number of impaired drivings that occur,” he said,
Impaired driving was a factor in at least five of the 35 fatal collisions this year, police say, along with 109 criminal code charges for those under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
They recommend taking public transit, flagging a cab, or asking a friend for a ride if you need to get back home after a night out.
