Calgary man faces charges in NW break-and-enter incidents a day apart

Calgary Police have arrested a 22-year-old man following a pair of break-in’s in the NW community of Bowness.

A Calgary man is facing charges after two break-and-enters happened in the city’s northwest about two hours apart on Sunday and another a day later.

Calgary police say they responded to reports of a suspicious man trying to break into a home on the 4600 block of 84 Street NW before 4 a.m. on Dec. 21.

After arriving and not finding the man, officers got another report at around 5:40 a.m. on 34 Avenue NW. The residents inside woke up and found an unknown man inside — the same man the police had a description of from the previous incident.

Officers say he was taken into custody, received charges, and then was released.

However, the same man was found on Dec. 22 after police responded to reports of an unlawful entry into a home under construction on the 3400 block of 86 Street NW at around 8:30 p.m.

As a result, 22-year-old Jeff Ethan Devost has been charged with two counts of break-and-enter and is slated to appear in court on Jan. 23, 2026.

Now, police are reminding Calgarians to ensure their homes are secure and to report any suspicious activity they see.

They offer several tips to ensure their homes are secure:

  • Always lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home.
  • Install security cameras with battery backup and lighting near entry points to stay protected.
  • Ensure motion-sensor or timed outdoor lights are working.
  • Avoid leaving mail or packages on your doorstep for extended periods. Consider other delivery options, such as work addresses, parcel lockers or community mailboxes. If packages are delivered to your home, request a signature or ask a trusted neighbour to collect them.
  • Clean your driveway and walkways after snowfall to avoid making your home look unoccupied.
  • Ask a trusted neighbour or friend to keep an eye on your property when you’re away.
  • Lock car doors and never leave garage openers inside your vehicle.
  • If you notice suspicious activity near your home or neighbourhood, report it to the police. Officers say for crimes in progress, call 911 immediately. For incidents that have already occurred, call the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or report it online.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident or any others to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
