A water main break in Calgary’s Coach Hill on Tuesday has led to a restless night for dozens of residents.
At around 7 p.m., emergency crews responded to Coach Hill Road and Coach Gate Way SW after a pipe burst, forming a small lake for a time.
A notice on the city’s website says crews are using acoustic equipment to find leaks and to check the severity of the issue.
Spokesperson Jaime Stopa says the city is aware the break is not on a feeder main and that a repair crew is being mobilized.
However, he wasn’t able to indicate how long the repair would take, saying several factors make up this determination, including how fast the break is found, the size and complexity of the break, and ground conditions for digging.
“Our goal is to have repairs complete and water service restored in under 48 hours, but sometimes this is not possible,” he said in an email. “A simple repair may take around 24 hours to complete, while complicated breaks may take 72 or more hours to repair.”

Currently, 21 homes are affected, and a water wagon has been ordered.
