Man dies of injuries after head-on crash between transit bus, pickup truck

On Friday August 28th, just after 9am, a 79-year-old man driving a GMC Canyon collided head on with a City of Calgary Transit bus 70th street and Bowness Road Northwest.

A man has died after his pickup truck collided head-on with a Calgary Transit bus in Bowness last week.

Emergency crews were called to Bowness Road and 70 Street NW around 9 a.m. Friday for a two-vehicle crash.

Police say a 79-year-old man was driving a 2016 GMC Canyon west along Bowness Road when his truck crossed the centre line and struck a bus head-on.

No one on the bus was hurt. The pickup driver was taken to hospital in life‑threatening condition.

Police said the man died of his injuries on Tuesday.

Investigators say neither speed nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403‑266‑1234 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
