Banff issues cougar warning after close call

A very close encounter with a cougar has prompted a warning for the Banff townsite.

Someone was knocked down by a big cat in the northeast end of Banff Thursday afternoon, but managed to scare off the predator before they were hurt.

Bill Hunt with Parks Canada tells 660News, it happened in a wooded area between the town and a nearby industrial site.

“There are no regular trails nearby.  There is a couple of pathways that people walk to and from work, that work in the industrial area.” He says.

Cougars aren’t the only dangerous animals prowling around Banff right now; a bear warning is also up on the other side of the townsite.
