Condo project raises concerns about Heritage homes

Some century-old homes along Memorial Drive could be bulldozed for a new condo building if a developer’s rezoning application is approved.
According to The Calgary Herald, 13 properties west of the Louise Bridge are part of an application to rezone the area and construct 70 Chicago style brownstone condos.
Cynthia Klassen, President of the Calgary Heritage Initiative Society, said old homes, like the ones in question, make the neighborhood unique.
Area residents have also voiced concerns about increased traffic in the area.
Klassen said the homes under the application are not declared heritage sites because owners are afraid of renovation and rebuilding restrictions that come with such a designation.
