More dead ducks have been found at another oilsands site in Fort McMurray.
However this time, none of the birds were covered in oil and it appears they simply died from exhaustion while trying to fly through a freezing rain storm Monday night.
Syncrude reports 350 ducks died at their oilsands site, with other bird deaths reported at Shell and Suncor operations as well.
Spokesman Pius Rolheiser says Tuesday afternoon, staff at Imperial’s Kearl oilsands project came across a number of dead ducks.
“(We) Found a small number and by small I mean less than 10 in the vicinity of our site,” says Rolheiser.
Rolheiser adds another 20 ducks were found still alive and after they were given a chance to recover they were set free.
The Kearl oilsands project is still under construction and has no tailings ponds.
