The woman who represented Canadian curling at the Turin Olympics is one win away from doing the same in Vancouver.
Shannon Kleibrink, the 2006 Olympic bronze medallist, advanced to the final of the Canadian Olympic curling trials Friday with a 10-5 win over Thunder Bay, Ont., skip Krista McCarville.
Kleibrink, who secured her spot in the tournament semifinal by posting a 5-2 record, disposed of McCarville by scoring five in the eighth end.
Kleibrink’s shot came one end after McCarville, who played two tiebreakers Friday just to make it to the semis, tied the score with a double takeout with her hammer.
Kleibrink will now face fellow Calgarian Cheryl Bernard, who clinched her spot in the final by finishing first in the round-robin standings with a 6-1 record.
Bernard beat Kleibrink 8-5 when the two rinks met in the women’s fifth draw.
