Calgary International boosts fee

YYC will soon be one of the most expensive airports in the country to fly out of.

It’s thanks to a hike in the Airport Improvement Fee.

The Airport Authority’s Jody Mosley tells the Calgary Sun, a $3 increase is scheduled in the spring which will push the fee to $25 as of March 1st.

Mosley says they don’t receive any funding from government.

She says the increase is needed to help pay for a $3-billion expansion with work starting next year on a project to double the size of the terminal and build a new runway.

The hike means Calgary will join Toronto’s Pearson International and Montreal’s Trudeau Airport as the most expensive in the country.

Ottawa and Vancouver both charge $15 for their airport improvement fees.
