Avalanche risk ‘high’ in the back country

With just a skiff of snow by Saturday morning, Calgary missed the deluge of snow that hit several parts of the province.
Many roads are in poor condition to the north, east and southeast of the city.
A lot of snow, 40 to 80 centimetres, has fallen in the mountains over the past few days, sparking a warning from the Canadian Avalanche Centre.
The Centre’s Cam Campbell tells 660News the avalanche hazard will be high this weekend in all regions, rated 4 on a scale of 5.
Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
Anyone heading out this weekend is advised to stay in-bounds at the ski resorts.
Campbell says those heading out to the back country should always carry the necessary life-saving equipment.
“That would include an avalanche probe, shovel and of course a transciever to locate someone in the event of a burial,” says Campbell.
