Final farewell to a long time Calgary eatery

An 1894 map of Canada was among the items that sold during an auction, Saturday, marking the final chapter in the history of the beltline restaurant Mother Tucker’s, which first opened in 1976.
Don Whyte, a former owner of the eatery, lamented many of the items in the auction went for bargain prices.
The 100-year-old-plus map went for $3100, despite being appraised at $3500.
Whyte tells the Calgary Herald many of the items in the auction were antiques.
Sonja and Jim Fowler were among those who took advantage of auction. They bought an antique lamp for $30 and a pump organ for $100.
The owners of the former Mother Tucker’s, who plan to open a new restaurant and pub on the site, say the decor didn’t fit with their new plans. But they’re tight-lipped about the details of the new establishment.
