Flower shops hopping for Valentine’s Day

Candy stores and flower shops are bracing for the flood of panicked shoppers who waited until the last minute to get a gift for their valentine.

Red Rose Florist owner Barry Matthews says Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for the shop located on Centre Street North.

He says the store had more than a thousand orders even before the doors opened on Monday, and is expecting many last-minute walk-ins as well.

Matthews says there are many different options for people, with some spending upwards of $700, though he says most spend between $80 and $150 on their special someone.
