Heritage Classic knock offs

A warning from the NHL to anyone planning on purchasing Heritage Classic memorabilia.

While you’re looking to shell out the cash for merchandise, counterfeiters are looking to make a quick buck by selling you knock-offs.

This wouldn’t be the first time counterfeiters were out targeting hockey fans. At the Winter Classic held in Pittsburgh earlier this year police seized over 870 fake NHL items.

A spokesperson for the NHL says there are things to look out for to avoid becoming a victim.

Look for the NHL hologram sticker or hangtag and a sewn-in label identifying the merchandise as “official” and authorized by the NHL.

Shop at shop.nhl.com, official NHL team stores and other legitimate retailers, rather than buying from questionable street vendors, flea markets, or other such sources.

Beware of ripped tags, typographical errors, poor quality screen-printing, or irregular markings on apparel.

Be suspicious of items when the price is too good to be true.
