Alberta Tories deliver throne speech

The government’s throne speech for the upcoming legislative session is now in the books.
The Tories are promising to deal with the province’s shortage of continuing care spots during this session by adding 1,000 spaces by the end of this year and another 5,300 spaces are slated to be added by 2015.
The economy is the other big focus. Bill 1 for this legislative session will seek to help expand Alberta’s economic reach into Asia with a more aggressive push for trade with China, India, Japan and South Korea.
If passed, the bill will allow for the creation of an advisory council to boost trade with Asia. Premier Ed Stelmach says that will help diversify the province’s economy and cushion it from economic shocks affecting the United States.
The speech was also heavy on infrastructure and health promises, with pledges to move ahead on helping with ring road construction right here in Calgary.
