HandiBus votes to go on strike

It could be a tough road ahead for around 17 thousand Calgarians with disabilities, after HandiBus voted on Wednesday night to go on strike.

87 per cent voted to take job action, with more details on what that will mean coming on Thursday.

The Calgary Transit Union’s Mike Mahar tells 660News, there won’t be an immediate shutdown of all services, but one possibility is a one day a week stoppage.

The vote comes after Mahar says concessions couldn’t be made on working conditions and forced overtime.

Handibus makes around 40 thousand trips every month, taking seniors to the hospital and disabled children to school.

The city has yet to comment.
