Alberta power bills could rise soon

Cost estimates are up for a new transmission line connecting Calgary and Edmonton and it looks like residential users will foot the increase.

The average bill will go up $1.40 per month rather than the $1.10 that had originally been predicted because of the project.

AltaLink isn’t ruling out more increases, saying inflation may force them to hike bills even more.

The utility has filed its application for the controversial $1.4-billion power line, saying it’s necessary to update the province’s aging grid.
