Final countdown to Barlow Trail closure begins

In a month, Barlow Trail north of McKnight Boulevard will be closed to the airport for the construction of a new runway.
Alderman Jim Stevenson says the shutdown will most impact drivers on the east side of the city.
He says until the airport tunnel project is built, most people will use Deerfoot Trail to get to and from YYC.
Stevenson says 36th Street N.E. is also an option and later in the year, Metis Trail will get people to and from the terminal.
Some businesses in the area are contemplating a class action lawsuit if the city does not get around to building the airport tunnel.
The General Manager of Canadian Aero Accessories, Jeff Runciman, says if traffic in the area gets really bad he might move his company to Airdrie.
Jody Moseley with the Calgary Airport Authority says as soon as Barlow is closed, construction crews will move in.
The new runway, which will be big enough to handle a space shuttle, will cost
$620-million and will take just over three years to complete.
Another road that is also going to be closed because of the runway project is McCall Way N.E.
