Japan earthquake update

An explosion at one of Japan’s nuclear power stations has destroyed a building housing the reactor.

But the government says while the blast destroyed the exterior walls of the building where the reactor is placed, the actual metal housing enveloping the reactor survived.

Officials say the radiation levels actually have been decreasing, easing fears of a meltdown from damage caused by yesterday’s powerful earthquake and tsunami.

The official death toll in Japan’s two disasters is 574, but that number is expected to rise.

Following the massive quake, scores of villages, towns and cities were battered by the ensuing tsunami as seven-metre waves swept inland about 10 kilometers

Media reports say at least 13-hundred may have died.

One report said four whole trains disappeared yesterday and still haven’t been located.
