Soccer dome gets a roof

Calgary’s southeast soccer centre is getting a new steel field house after the bubble that covers three indoor fields deflated twice in twice in three years.

A city committee gave the thumbs up for a nearly $3-million grant to build the new structure that will house four indoor fields, one more than the old bubble did.

The Calgary Herald reports the grant money still needs approval from Alberta Municipal Affairs, and Facility General Manager Perry Logan plans to fundraise and find sponsors to help with the cost.

The bubble on the centre first collapsed in 2008 and then again back in November.

It’s hoped the new structure will be ready to go by next winter.
