Judge ponders long-term offender status for Wanamaker

A notorious sex offender will get a psychiatric test to see if he should be classified as a long-term offender.

Eric Wanamaker was convicted earlier this month on numerous child porn charges but the court is still deciding what his punishment should be.

The assessment is expected to take around two months to complete.

Wanamaker has already served prison terms on other child porn charges and for sexually assaulting a young girl.

If declared a long-term offender, Wanamaker would have to serve up to ten years in the community after finishing his prison sentence.

The crown is asking for at least three years in jail.
