May 15-21 marks EMS Awareness Week, a time to honour the Calgary paramedics who answer over 100,000 calls for service each year.
Spokesperson Adam Loria tells 660News paramedics in our city are trained to help out in all types of situations.
“You call 911 and we will be there within minutes,” he says. “There’s no question about that, and you will get some highly skilled paramedics that can and will begin advanced procedures that would happen in a hospital. We can begin those in your house, on the 30th floor of a business tower downtown or in the middle of a school field.”
Calgary Metro EMS is holding an open house Saturday, May 21st at the station on Westmount Boulevard northwest.
From 9:30 a.m. until noon, the public will be able to check out ambulances, equipment and speak with paramedics about their line of work.
