Province-wide fire ban issued

A province-wide fire ban has been issued for Alberta, effective immediately.

Premier Ed Stelmach says that the risk of fire in the province remains high.

The ban includes provincial park fires and all public land throughout the long weekend.

A spokesperson for Alberta Tourism Parks and Recreation says the ban includes campfires in all Provincial Parks and will be in effect for the long weekend.

Stelmach adds that he does not know how long the ban will be in place, but they are monitoring and taking advice from fire prevention officers on the ground.
