Calgary wins prestigious environment award

The city has been presented with the National Municipal Environment Award for saving up to 150-million litres of water every year.
The one-of-a-kind Fire Training Water Re-use Project, helps the Fire Department reduce the city’s environmental footprint.
Firefighters need to use millions of litres of water to practice their techniques and their special training facility at ATCO Village helps save most of the water used during their drills.
The water spills into four ponds, and is then recycled and re-used.
The Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators handed Calgary the award Wednesday at a conference in Halifax.
