No summer holidays for Alberta school trustees

While youngsters across the province are gearing up to soak up and rays and kickback and have some fun, trustees have some homework to do.
The President of the Alberta School Boards Association Jacquie Hansen tells 660 news, boards across the province are wrestling with reduced goverment funding.
Hanson says early indications suggests as many as one thousand teachers will have to be laid-off in order to offset the shortfall.
The Calgary Board of Education is looking at letting go 176 administration staff and more than 200 teachers.
CBE Chair Pat Cochrane tells 660News unfortunately life in the classroom will be impacted.
She says they will have a better idea of next year’s school budget at the end of June.
The Calgary Catholic School Board is also looking at some layoffs in order to erase it’s red ink.
Officials with both Calgary Boards are lobbying the province to establish a sustainable, predictable funding formula for education.
