Police nab suspects in planned murder

Police say they have prevented a sinister kidnapping and murder plot thought to be in retaliation for a previous attack.

39-year-old Lucas Ferber and 50-year-old Ronald William Weiting were arrested two days ago and charged with conspiracy to commit both kidnapping and murder.

After a northeast tattoo parlour they hung out sat was firebombed, the two suspects thought they knew who was responsible and allegedly began planning his death in retaliation.

Police say they don’t think the man the suspects were targeting was responsible for the arson.

Staff Sgt. Joel Mathews says the suspects came very close to getting their target when police arrested them.

“It was very close,” he says. “We’re very confident that we actually did prevent a homicide.”

Mathews says the target was only casually acquainted with the suspects and was shocked to learn of the plot against him.

Both of the suspects are well known to police and said to have links to organized crime.
